The squirrels showed up soon after she moved in.
Meekly, at first, after having experienced the dogs that used to roam that backyard, but steadily bolder.
The woman had not expected squirrels, nor did she particularly want them. She had aimed for a variety of birds. The squirrels could not possibly care less.
The woman, in her delusion, tried feeders that are supposed to “baffle” squirrels.
The squirrels laughed in her face. Repeatedly. From inside the feeders.
MEET THE ARTIST
(AKA - HUMAN FOOD DISPENSER)
I am passionate about our earth and its (mostly) non-human inhabitants.
The moment when an animal acknowledges your presence.
The way a wave hits the shore.
A bee, gathering honey.
A butterfly emerging from a chrysalis.
How trees connect their roots with the roots of other trees in old forests.
It's all spectacular and magical, and very much worth sharing, and very much worth protecting.
